Welcome our web site. The Taustine Eye Center was created by Dr. Lloyd Taustine 30 years ago. Our ophthalmologists are all highly experienced, board certified and recertified. Few practices have doctors with this much experience who are also recertified. Dr Taustine specializes in cataract surgery and treatment as well as refractive vision surgeries such as LASIK. He has been in practice for 30 years. Dr. Kritchman specializes in problems involving retina, especially diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. He has been in practice for 20 years. Dr. Williams is a nationally recognized glaucoma specialist who heads our research center. Dr. Williams has been in practice 28 years.
We also have our optometry department. Dr. Hurt and Dr. Hogan provide attentive care to their patients in need of optometric services.
On our web site you can find information about our offices, our doctors, eye conditions and eye procedures. There is a search button in the upper right hand corner to help you navigate the site. Our Louisville, Kentucky office is in the Medical Arts Bldg on Eastern Parkway. Our Madison, Indiana office is in the Druscilla building on Broadway across from the hospital.
A thorough eye examination involves dilating the pupils with drops inorder to inspect the internal structures of the eye. These drops take some time to wear off and may affect your vision. We recommend you have someone available to drive you home if you find your vision is affected by the exam. Most routine appointments take about an hour. Vision loss and lasik evaluations may take two hours or longer.
We understand events happen which might prevent you from keeping your appointment. Please give us 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment. We appreciate your time and try to stay on schedule. Our practice does include unscheduled emergency visits. On occasion we may run late. We appreciate your patience in allowing us to provide emergency care to our patients. Hopefully you will never be a patient requiring emergency eye care.
We participate with most of the major insurance companies. Be aware that insurance is confusing. Each insurance company may have many different plans. Our office participates in most plans. Our insurance office will be happy to help verify coverage issues before you are seen. Call and ask for Joy at 502.371.9701. Some insurance plans require you to pay a copayment at the time you are seen. Make sure to bring it with you. Also some plans require a referral from your primary care physician. Bring it as we cannot see you without a referral. If you are an established patient but have changed coverage, please let us know.
