Choosing the Best Sunglasses

Summer is just around the corner. Hot, summer days also mean bright sunny days. Chances are you will be spending more time outside whether it be going to the swimming pool, kids going to summer camp, doing yard work, playing at the park, going to the lake, etc. It is imperative that you remember to wear sunscreen, wear a big brimmed hat, and sunglasses that protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. These harmful rays can lead to cataracts and other serious eye disorders. So, do you have the proper sunglasses to prevent short- and long-term eye damage?
To coincide with UV Safety Month in May, our friends at the American Academy of Ophthalmology have come up with important tips to consider when buying sunglasses that give the most protection from harmful UV rays.
1. The most important thing when buying new sunglasses is to find a sticker on the glasses that says blocks 100 percent of UV rays
2. Purchases sunglasses with big lenses as the bigger the coverage will help cut down on UV rays entering the eye from the side
Check out the rest of the tips here, but just remember that appearance is not the most important factor. Always look for the sticker or tag that says the sunglasses block 100% of UV rays.
