IMPORTANT: Fireworks safety over July 4th holiday
- Posted on: Jun 29 2020
The July 4th holiday might feel a little different this year as we continue to face a global health pandemic. But as you might have already heard at night, that is not going to stop people from shooting off fireworks. While these are meant to be a fun activity during the holiday, these are extremely dangerous and it is imperative to understand and follow safety precautions. It is best to leave the fireworks to the professionals, but if you are someone that will be shooting them off yourself please be mindful of the following safety tips and safety statistics:
-You might think you’re being safer only using sparklers. In fact, sparklers are extremely dangerous, as they burn at more than 2,000 degrees Farenheit. Sparklers were responsible for 1,200 of the injuries in the latest Consumer Product Safety Commission report.
-You might think you are safe being someone that is watching your friends shoot the fireworks off. According to another study posted on AAO, 65% of people injured by fireworks were innocent bystanders.
-If you attend a professional fireworks show, respect safety barriers, follow all safety instructions and view fireworks from at least 500 feet away.
-Set off fireworks outdoors in a clear area, away from houses, dry leaves, or grass and other flammable materials.
