Dr. Victor Neamtu
The Taustine Eye Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Victor Neamtu to our practice. Dr. Neamtu is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina. He is particularly interested in ocular complications of diabetes and macular degeneration.
Dr. Neamtu graduated from the Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering and computer science with a minor in biology. He then went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Neamtu completed his residency in ophthalmology at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and then completed a two-year medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. During Dr. Neamtu’s fellowship, he particularly enjoyed teaching and training residents, earning him the Resident’s Fellow Teacher award. Further, his mentor Dr. Eller, commented that Dr. Neamtu was the best retina fellow he had trained. Dr. Neamtu’s research interests include diagnostic testing and imaging modalities for inflammatory and infectious diseases of the retina and vitreous.
Dr. Neamtu is particularly excited for the move as it marks a return to the town where he grew up. When discussing the return to Louisville, Dr. Neamtu said, “It feels like I’m coming full circle, having started in college here. I moved around a lot, for various reasons, and I’m looking to settle down in a place I know I love. The Taustine Eye Center provided me with an excellent opportunity, to be part of a well-known, respected practice, where I can grow and provide the best services I am capable of as a retinal specialist.”
Dr. Neamtu is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
